Meet our Musical Director, Ms. Kathy Kokes

Kathy Kokes is thrilled to serve as the Director for the Champlain Valley Sweet Adelines. She is a graduate of Skidmore College and SUNY Plattsburgh, earning degrees in Music Education and Psychology. In her 25-year career, Kathy has taught students of all ages, including adult learners. After teaching at Shaker Junior High School near Albany, NY, Kathy moved back to the North Country and has been teaching at the Northeastern Clinton Central School for 23 years, where she has been the founder of several successful vocal ensembles, including “Clefhangers”, “Kaliedosaic” and “The Acoustifellas”. These ensembles have performed throughout the North Country at various events. Kathy has been invited several times to serve as a guest conductor at various music festivals including the Clinton County Music Educator’s All-County Festival and the Vermont Island Arts Festivals.

Students of Mrs. Kokes have been selected as N.Y.S.S.M.A. All-State and American Choral Director’s Association All-Eastern participants. Several of her former students have gone on to study Music Performance and Music Education in college, and are now Music Educators or Professional Performers themselves.

Kathy is a New York State School Music Association Vocal Adjudicator and served on N.Y.S.S.M.A.’s State-wide diversity Committee for two years where she represented the voice of rural schools in New York State. Mrs. Kokes enjoys spending time with her family, and her dogs, cats and horses.
